Une personne sur deux a peur d'aller chez le chirurgien-dentiste. Pourtant, aujourd'hui, les soins sont beaucoup plus « confortables » et le patient devrait être rassuré... C'est dire si les réactions de nos patients face à la peur n'ont pas fini de nous étonner !
Certains des patients que nous recevons souffrent d'une angoisse, d'une crainte ou d'une peur des soins dentaires. Cette souffrance -consciente ou inconsciente- peut se surajouter à la douleur physique d'une pathologie bucco-dentaire existante. La relation de soins en est parasitée et le chirurgien-dentiste peut alors rencontrer des situations de blocage qui l'empêchent de mener à bien les traitements nécessaires.
Forts de ce constat, les auteurs de ce livre ont voulu comprendre l'origine de « la peur du dentiste » et les raisons de l'anxiété des patients. Ils ont étudié et collecté les moyens de réduire cette peur. Cependant, ce livre n'est pas un livre de recettes car on ne traite pas l'homme en général mais l'individu en particulier...
C'est pourquoi P. Pirnay et J.-B. Bohl ont cherché à faire un état des lieux des aides thérapeutiques, des techniques éprouvées ou qui demeurent encore sujettes à caution, pour aider le praticien à mieux comprendre son patient et contribuer à diminuer ou apaiser son anxiété : médicaments, homéopathie, acupuncture, hypnose, musicothérapie et même aquarium, ils donnent des conseils et des pistes afin d'accueillir son patient en toute sérénité.
Auteurs :
Jean-Baptiste Bohl est docteur en chirurgie dentaire, chercheur au laboratoire d'éthique médicale et de médecine légale de la faculté de médecine de l'Université Paris-Descartes, ancien attaché du service d'odontologie de l'hôpital Albert-Chenevier. Philippe Pirnay est maître de conférences à la faculté de chirurgie dentaire de l'Université Paris-Descartes, praticien hospitalier, chef de service d'odontologie adjoint de l'hôpital Albert-Chenevier. Habilité à diriger les recherches, il est aussi président du Comité national odontologique d'éthique, et ancien président de l'Académie nationale de chirurgie dentaire.
