Cette étude s'attache au vécu du malade et à l'analyse de la maladie dans l'un de ses aspects qui nous semble trop souvent nié ou négligé dans les protocoles de soin, à savoir ce que nous nommons ici " la blessure de l'identité ".
La maladie entraîne en effet la plupart du temps celui qui en souffre dans un processus de dévaluation intime, dans un sentiment de déchéance qui atteint profondément l'estime de soi.
Les modifications corporelles que la maladie impose, loin de ne toucher que la surface du malade, l'atteignent très profondément, jusqu'à générer un sentiment trouble de soi.
C'est parfois même la perte du goût de soi qu'engendre la maladie : à la fois compris comme dégoût devant son corps que l'on ne reconnaît plus et perte du sentiment corporel singulier qui constituait jusqu'ici un marqueur habituel de notre identité.
Prendre au sérieux cette souffrance morale, ce vacillement ontologique dans l'épreuve de la maladie, implique de redéfinir de nouveaux enjeux pour le soin, centrés sur la nécessité de tenir compte de cette inquiétude souvent silencieuse face à des métamorphoses inquiétantes, et d'y répondre dans une approche qui rétablit le contact avec les autres, ainsi surtout qu'avec ce nouveau soi que la maladie fait émerger ; en d'autres termes, réconcilier le patient avec lui-même.
Claire Marin est membre du Centre international d'études de la philosophie française contemporaine à l'Ecole normale supérieure et professeur de philosophie en classes préparatoires.
