Britta Böhler is a German-Dutch author of literary fiction, non fiction and crime novels. Britta writes in English, Dutch and German. She lived in Amsterdam for many years and has recently returned to the country of her birth (Germany). On her booktube channel, The Second Shelf, she talks about books, reading and writing.
In 2013 she published her first novel, a fictional account of three crucial days in the life of German author Thomas Mann. Originally written in German (Der Brief des Zauberers), the novel has been translated into eight languages, including Dutch (De beslissing), French, Italian, Greek, Hebrew, Danish, Turkish and English (The Decision).
Her latest Dutch non fiction book is De goede advocaat (The Good Lawyer, about the ethics of the legal profession) and in 2021 she published her novel De juiste houding (written in English as The Blue Horses, but currently only available in Dutch).
Together with author Rodney Bolt she also writes crime fiction under the pen name BRITTA BOLT. The Posthumus Mysteries are available in Dutch (Heldhaftig / Vastberaden / Barmhartig), English (Lonely Graves / Lives Lost / Deadly Secrets) and German (Das Büro der einsamen Toten / Das Haus der verlorenen Seelen / Der Tote im fremden Mantel).
In the past, Britta was as a lawyer in Amsterdam where she had her own law firm, specializing in human rights law. Currently, she is a law professor at the University of Maastricht and a Commissioner with the Dutch National Human Rights Institute in Utrecht.
